南オーストラリア大学 Hawke Research Institute の Anthony Elliott 所長を招き、6月5日の18時から2時間に渡って公開講演会が開催されました。
昨年出版されたご自身の著作と関連させながら、シンプルなスライドを用いてAIを賢く考える方法について講義をされました。また途中、木村忠正教授によるElliot氏の内容に対する質問が中心となった講義が行なわれました。生徒・教員等のオーディエンスからの質疑応答の際には、生徒からは残念ながら挙がりませんでしたが、終始静粛な雰囲気の中、学生と教員が2名の教員の講義に耳を傾けて、内容を聞き入っている様子が見受けられました。
参加者がAIの発展がいかに人々の生活に影響をもたらしているか、また、未だかつて体験したことのないAIが進出した時代で生活しているということを改めて実感させられたと思います。
Elliot氏が話された内容は改めてAIがもたらした社会に私たちは置かれているということを真剣に考え向き合うべきということを気づかされました。

By paying attention to his lecture, I personally realized how important to have the ability to understand the second language at an academic level. Also, I figured out that just being able to talk in English with people who are around the same age, does not always mean that I get to be a member of the “bilingual”. We, students, should try to learn the issues and situations of society not only in Japanese but also in English (=non-native language). Isn’t amazing to learn new perspectives from people who have knowledge in a particular field without translation! The more you have a good command of foreign languages, the more knowledge you can get from people all over the world.
